Cohort Welcome Email
From: Lisa Naquin
Subject: I-Corps Spring Cohort #1 (Boston) 2020 - Welcome and Important Information
Date: March 27, 2020
Hello I-Corps Teams,
On behalf of the NE I-Corps Teaching Team, I would like to welcome you to the NSF National I-Corps program! My name is Lisa Naquin and I’ll be serving as the Teaching Assistant for this cohort and I am here to help you navigate the course over the next couple of months so watch your inbox for my emails. Please read the following information carefully in advance of the Kick-off introduction on Tuesday, March 31 at 3pm.
Please note that while the original syllabus for the planned in-person national I-Corps Teams program is provided, the attached Addendum has been published to replace the agenda and activities for the Kick Off from March 31 through April 3. It has been redesigned to reflect the difference needed for a virtual online program.
Preparing for the Kickoff
Note the attached pre-class assignment. In addition to the required reading and videos to watch, our team will need to prepare a 2-slide intro presentation as described in the syllabus. Your presentation is due in Dropbox by 7:00am EST on Tuesday, March 31. Please label your file for this assignment as Team Number_EL LastName_Date. See Dropbox instructions below.
The technical video mentioned in the original syllabus and welcome email is no longer required.
The last and most important task is to plan interviews ahead of time. You’ll be expected to conduct 12 customer interviews during the kickoff. Remember to schedule these interviews only during the specified hours. Any interviews conducted prior to Wednesday, April 1 st will not count for the cohort. You should also determine which web platform you plan to use for your virtual interviews and sign up for a free account if you haven’t already.
LaunchPad Central
In preparation for your participation in the program, each team member will receive an email invitation from LaunchPad Central (LPC). This is the web-based tool we will use throughout the program to track your team’s progress. With it, you will do the following:
The email from LPC will contain instructions for creating your account. If you don’t find it, please check your spam folder . If you do not receive an email prior to March 30th , please let me know. Once you’ve received your invitation, follow the directions to sign into our cohort. The email will also include a video and guide on how to use LPC. You must review those resources before using the software. Please familiarize yourself with the system and fill out your team description and individual profile (including a photo, so the teaching team will have a face to go with your name).
Dropbox
You will receive a separate email invitation to join the shared cohort Dropbox folder . Please submit all assignments in Dropbox (not LPC). All assignments should be uploaded as a PDF to the corresponding subfolder in the Dropbox named ‘I-Corps Boston Apr-May 2020’. When you are uploading your videos and presentations, please label your file as Team Number_Team Name_Date. Again, please do not upload your presentations directly into LPC. Your team number is noted in the list below.
Please note that the space provided by the free version of Dropbox may not be sufficient for the entire program, so you may need to opt in to one of the paid plans for the duration of the course. You may use your award funds for this purpose and I strongly recommend doing so prior to the Kick-off Workshop to avoid potential space issues during the course.
Course Materials
Important course materials are available in the ‘Course Materials’ folder within the cohort Dropbox.
Team Numbers
There will be 21 teams participating in this cohort. Please note your team number in the list below. You must sign in to all video conferences as Team Number_Name_Role (with your role being either EL/Co-EL, TL/Co-TL or IM) to be counted as present at each online session.
Video Conference Software
1. FOR THE COHORT SESSIONS - We will be utilizing Zoom as the platform for running all of the scheduled online activities of the cohort. Links will be provided within LPC Resource Center. It is recommended that you visit Zoom.com and obtain a free account and familiarize yourselves with this software before the session on March 31 if you do not already use it. Check their support page if needed for instructions and video tutorials.
2. FOR YOUR VIDEO INTERVIEWS - You should use whatever video conference tool you and your team members are most comfortable with / have available. You should also use this tool for your own team meetings.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions as they arise. We look forward to seeing you
online at the opening session on March 31, 2020 at 3:00pm.
Thanks,
Lisa and the NE I-Corps Teaching Team
